Crash with Train at Las Posas Rd, Fifth Street Kills Ventura County Driver

Ventura County, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, March 31, 2025, a driver lost their life in a collision with a Metrolink train, according to Edhat.

The Ventura County Fire Department reports that the accident occurred around 4:30 PM at the intersection of Las Posas Road and Fifth Street, between Camarillo and Oxnard.

Emergency responders arrived to find that a vehicle had collided with a Metrolink train traveling along the 118 Ventura County Line. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported among the five passengers and three crew members aboard the train.

Authorities closed southbound traffic on Las Posas Road at Pleasant Valley Road and shut down westbound East Fifth Street at Pleasant Valley to allow emergency personnel to respond and investigate. Officials urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

It remains unclear whether speed, mechanical failure, or other factors contributed to the fatal accident. This is an ongoing investigation.

Comparative Negligence

California law recognizes that multiple parties might share liability in an accident. Under Comparative Negligence, victims still have the right to pursue compensation for damages even if their own actions bear some responsibility for their injury.

Personal Injury Claims and the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC)

Just like anyone else that Ventura County citizens share the road with, the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) can be held liable if any of their vehicles are found to be responsible for causing accidental death or injury. Victims have the right to pursue compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages.

Holding the VCTC accountable isn’t something most people should try on their own. However, Quirk Accident & Injury Attorneys, APC, are here to help.
