Head-On Collision Dangers on Hwy 34 in Ventura County

There are many accident risks that focused and safe drivers can avoid. Drivers can monitor their lanes and the traffic in front of them and beside them and often steer clear of another motorist’s mistake.

That’s hard to do in a dangerous situation involving oncoming traffic. A careless driver can veer across yellow lines and wind up in the path of an approaching vehicle. Both vehicles could be traveling full speed and drivers suddenly confronted with a vehicle heading straight for them may not have time to steer clear of a devastating head-on collision.

Head-On Collision in Ventura County Injures Two Drivers

A devastating head-on collision caused serious injuries to two drivers on Friday afternoon outside of Oxnard. KTLA-TV reports the crash occurred on Highway 34 east of Wood Road.

The California Highway Patrol says the accident happened at around 5:15 p.m. on July 21, 2023. Officers discovered two vehicles had struck in the westbound lane. The impact involved a 1995 Nissan and a 2021 Jeep.

A 70-year-old man from Van Nuys was driving the Nissan. He had to be flown to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura with what were determined to be major injuries. The 32-year-old man driving the jeep, from Searcy, Arkansas, was rushed to St. John’s Hospital with moderate injuries.

An update on both men’s conditions has not been released. It’s hoped that both victims can make a full recovery from their injuries.

The California Highway Patrol closed the westbound lanes for around two hours to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
